We want to tell you what we will do your information. There are rules of what we can do with information, and these are called the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and the UK Data Protection Act 2018.  We will follow these rules.

Your Information:

The information you give us is kept in Swansea University. Swansea University has a Data Controller whose job it is to make sure we do not break the rules of the GDPR. If you would like to contact the Data Protection Officer their email is: dataprotection@swansea.ac.uk

We ask you and your parents to agree that you are happy to do our survey. If you do not want to do the survey your parents can fill out the opt out form. It is in the interests of the University to hold your name for 1 month so that we have time to tell your school not to give you the survey to do in class.

If you are happy to do the survey, we will hold your name and address to show that you have agreed to do the survey.  We also use your address to be able to see how the place you live makes you more or less healthy. For example, if some places have more play areas, are children healthier in those areas? We do not give your information to anyone else. Only the researchers will be able to see your information.

We will ask you questions in the survey about how you feel about your health and happiness. We are allowed to hold your information because of ‘public task’. This means to understand what would make things better for people living in Wales. We are also allowed to hold the information you provide to us about how you feel about your health and happiness because it will help us with our research in understanding if being healthy and happy is because of where you live or if it has an effect on how well you do in school.

To protect you, we read your long responses on the survey to make sure you are not feeling very sad or think you may harm yourself. We will tell your school if we think you are unsafe.

We will hold your name and postcode for 12 months and then this information will be destroyed.

You have lots of rights when it comes to information we hold about you. If you would like to know more about these rights you can visit our webpage: https://www.swansea.ac.uk/about-us/compliance/data-protection/your-rights
