2 - Natural Resources Wales – Education, Learning

and Skills

Project aim

Natural Resources Wales’ purpose is to pursue sustainable management of natural resources in all of
its work. This means looking after air, land, water, wildlife, plants and soil to improve Wales’ well-
being, and provide a better future for everyone. Aim to provide an enabling service through advice
and guidance.

What does the project entail?

NRW’s Education, Learning and Skills main function is to provide an enabling service through advice
and guidance to help people live healthier and more fulfilled lives through connecting people and
communities with our natural resources, delivered via one of the 8 identified strategic work streams:

-Influencing the curriculum
-Curriculum linked resources, training materials and provision of age appropriate data

-Facilitating and enabling a range education and learning networks and partnerships e.g. Outdoor
learning Wales

-Encouraging and supporting others to use our owned and managed land in a self-led capacity

-Training programmes for Education Professionals, Partners and Stakeholders
-Cyfle & Skills

-Academic Partnerships

-Wider Framework – Children, Education & Life-Long Learning

NRW works with organisations such as:

-Save the Children (flood awareness and safety)
-Young Wales (the contribution of young people’s opinions to inform our work)

-Scout and Guiding movements (badge development)

-Pony Club (traditional woodland management techniques)

-Wales Alliance for Global Learning

-Public Health Wales (healthy schools)

-Eco Schools
-Welsh Wildlife

-Rivers Trust
