                                 5 - Nutrition Skills for Life Scheme







                 Project aim


               The aim is to increase nutrition knowledge and skills of community workers including
               teachers, teaching assistants, other school staff and health professionals by developing their
               nutrition skills to enable them to support healthy eating, using evidence based, unbiased,
               current nutrition information.


                 What does the project entail?


               -Training to teachers, teaching assistants, dragon sports staff, school nurses, and healthy
               schools coordinators.


               Types of training:
               -Agored Cymru Level 2 accredited training as part of the Nutrition Skills for Life Scheme.


               -Non accredited training may be provided on request, dependent on capacity.
                -Developing and supporting healthy eating initiatives by working with the above via healthy
               school coordinators on recommended suitable teaching materials and classroom literature.

               -Recommended teaching materials for use with children.

               -Supporting those trained on the accredited course, to deliver Level 1 accredited courses as
               applicable.

               -Supporting the School Holiday Enrichment programme (pilot) within Local Authorities as
               appropriate and agreed with WLGA.


                 What is required from the School?


               Release of staff to attend training/updates.


                 How do the pupils directly benefit?


                -Improve teachers’ knowledge /skills with regard to Nutrition

                -Improve eating habits of children and ultimately their health.

                -Improve cooking skills
