HAPPEN School Health Network
Spectrum provides a whole school delivery package – sessions are available to ALL school
staff, pupils and the school community e.g. parents, governors etc.
Spectrum also offers a school self-evaluation toolkit. This is a consultancy service that assists
Primary and Secondary schools across Wales to make strategic changes based on a Healthy
Relationships Self-evaluation Report. The toolkit is based on a series of questions aligned to
the Estyn Framework on standards, provision and leadership to help schools scrutinise what
they are already doing and identify any gaps in provision with regard to the Wellbeing and
Safeguarding agendas. This then results in the creation of a bespoke delivery package for
each school, giving them the choice to decide what is best for their school and wider
community. This can then feed into the School Improvement Plan.
What is required from the School?
That they contact the Spectrum Project – this is a free service funded by the Welsh
Government. The Project will assist schools to make strategic changes that stem from a
Healthy Relationships Self-evaluation Report. This report will be based on a series of q
questions aligned to the Estyn Framework on Standards, Provision and Leadership to help
schools scrutinise what needs to be done with regard to the Wellbeing and Safeguarding
agendas.
On completion of a Self-evaluation Report, consultancy work will facilitate the school to
create a Development Plan feeding into the School Improvement Plan. In this way Spectrum
will assist schools to define a range of solutions to identified gaps by working collaboratively
with them and giving schools greater choice to decide what is best for their school and
wider community.
How do the pupils directly benefit?
- From School Staff training – refer to key documents e.g. keeping Learner’s Safe, All
sessions are linked to the following curriculum areas:
- PSE Framework
- Welsh Baccalaureate
- Sex and relationships education in schools
- Sexual Health and Wellbeing Action Plan for Wales
